GREENSBORO, N.C.- UNC Greensboro men’s golf sophomore Nick Lyerly has been named Southern Conference Player of the Week, the conference office has announced.
This week’s award encompasses all of spring competition to date, as Lyerly was instrumental in the Spartans winning the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate, which took place from Feb. 10-12 at Osprey Course in Palm City, Fla.
While the Spartans won the tournament by posting a 14-under 850, Lyerly also won the individual championship as he finished the three-day tournament at nine-under (68-69-70). For the 54-hole tournament, the Salisbury, N.C., native carded just five bogeys against 12 birdies and an eagle on Hole 8 in the second round.
Then at the Puerto Rico Classic where eight top 40 teams and 20 top 100 players were competing, Lyerly finished tied for 26th place as he was one-over 217 (71-74-72) for the tournament.
UNCG’s next outing will take place from March 15-17 in Linger Longer in Eatonton, Ga.
