GREENSBORO, N.C.- UNC Greensboro’s men’s golf team (275-277) is currently just five strokes off from the lead at the 2018 Autotrader Collegiate Classic being held at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga.

Georgia Southern currently leads the tournament at 29-under while UNCG is in second place at 24-under with Samford a distant third at 11-under. 

Senior Bryce Hendrix (68-69) helped lead UNCG in the first round, shooting a four-under 68. Hendrix birdied twice on the front nine and twice on the back nine to counter just one bogey. In the second round, he carded a three-under 69 and is currently tied for fourth place.

Junior Jonathan Brightwell (70-68) finished the first round at two-under, rebounding from a double-bogey on hole No. 10 to birdie holes No. 15 and 3. The Charlotte, N.C., native, however, climbed the leaderboard in the second round with a four-under 68 with five birdies to just one bogey. He is currently tied for eighth place.

As for sophomore Zack Swanson (71-68), the Waxhaw, N.C., native led the Spartans in first round birdies (seven), but also recorded two bogies and two double bogies in the opening round. In the second round, though, Swanson tallied just one bogie against five birdies. Twice Swanson holed back-to-back birdies as well.

Sophomore Nick Lyerly (69-72), meanwhile, is at three-under through the first two rounds as the reigning SoCon Individual Champion is tied for 20th place. Lyerly was also just one of 11 golfers in the field to record an eagle on the first day of the tournament, doing so hole No. 15 in the second round.

Junior Grant Powell (68-74) also shot a four-under 68 during the first 18 holes, collecting a total of six birdies. In the second round, he was two-over.

Sophomore Justin Emmons (77-75), who is representing the Spartans in individual play, is currently in 67th place entering the final round.

UNCG will tee off the third round at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday.
