GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro softball last weekend hosted Charlotte for a double-header at UNCG Softball Stadium. Here’s a recap of those games against the 49ers:

Game 1: UNCG 4, Charlotte 5

The Spartans dropped a one-run decision to the 49ers in the first game of the double-header. Offensively, the Spartans got off to a slow start but were able to get on the scoreboard in the third inning with two runs, both brought in by Jasmine Palmer

In the fourth inning, the Spartans tacked on another run after Hannah Kincer scored on a leadoff walk, as she was moved over by a sacrifice bunt and then came around to score thanks to a Makenna Matthijs single down the right line. Singles by Matthijs and Palmer in the sixth inning combined to send in Monica Pepe for the team’s fourth and final run of the day.

In the circle, Kylie Bouplon started the contest and allowed three runs during an outing that ended in the second inning. Freshman Morgan Scott replaced Bouplon for the remainder of the game, allowing just two runs over 5.5 innings. She tallied six strikeouts along with three hits and three walks.

Game 2: UNCG 5, Charlotte 8

The Spartans lost by three runs in the second game of the double header despite scoring five runs. In the second inning, Tayler Ramos was brought in after drawing a two-out walk followed by a double by Matthijs and a single by Delaney Cumble. UNCG’s second run of the game was a result of Matthijs working the 49ers into a bases-loaded walk.

The final two runs of the day were collected in the sixth inning when Matthijs led off the frame with a single followed by back-to-back doubles by Samantha Lagrama and Kayleigh Willis.

Hannah Stiltner got the nod for the start and started the game with a 1-2-3 inning. In total, the Mebane, N.C., native pitched 2.5 innings allowing six hits and five runs along with a walk.

Alex Rodriguez entered in the top of the third inning, giving up two hits over the course of 2.5 innings of work. She did record a strikeout on the day while keeping the 49ers’ offense at bay, not allowing a run during her time in the circle.

Bouplon closed out the game for the Spartans, staying in the circle for the final two innings. She ended her outing with a strikeout.

Bouplon entered the circle to close out the game for the final two innings. She allowed 3 runs, 3 hits and struck out 1 batter for the 49ers final out.
