GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG softball (2-0) defeated local rival Elon 7-2 Sunday afternoon at UNCG Softball Stadium. The two teams played a scheduled, 10-inning game for the fall season.

The Spartans added another run the following inning. Katie Stettler got an infield single, went to second base on a throwing error by the second baseman and scored on a triple to right field by Monica Pepe.

Palmer hit her second leadoff homer in the fifth inning.

Makenna Matthijs had the Spartans’ third solo homer to center field in the seventh inning.

Matthijs had another solo homer to right center in the last inning.

Palmer and Matthijs lead the Spartans with two homers each. Palmer has notched three home runs in the first two games of the fall season.
