GREENSBORO, N.C. – This weekend, the top two teams in the Southern Conference standings will clash when UNCG hits Greenville, South Carolina to take on Furman Saturday and Sunday in a three-game series at Pepsi Stadium.

The two sides will square off in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m., with the series concluding Sunday with a single game at the same time. All games will be streamed live at no charge via YouTube. Links to live video and live stats will be available at UNCGSpartans.com.

The Paladins top the SoCon with a 7-2 conference record, while the Blue and Gold are just one game back at 6-3 following a 2-1 series win over Samford this past weekend in Greensboro.

The all-time series between Furman and UNCG has been a tight one, with the Paladins holding a slim 38-36 advantage. The two squads met up four times a year ago, with FU defeating the Spartans in two out of three games at the UNCG Softball Stadium during the regular season and ending UNCG’s season with a 3-0 victory in the SoCon Tournament.

Furman comes into the series on quite a roll, having come out victorious in nine out of its last 10 games after taking two of three over Mercer last weekend and sweeping a doubleheader with South Carolina State on Wednesday.

UNCG will have a tough task on its hands in facing a formidable Paladin pitching staff. Ace Lindsey Bert leads the league with a 1.96 ERA, a .199 opposing batting average and 152 strikouts. Bert has made 23 starts on the year, going the distance in 18 games and posting a 14-9 record. Emily Demonte is coming off of a perfect game Wednesday and holds an 8-8 record with a 3.28 ERA.

At the plate, Lauren Duggar boasts a .370 batting average, while AnnaRosa Borrelli is tied with Jordan Gontram (Wake Forest, N.C./Heritage) for ninth in the conference with 25 RBIs. As a team, Furman maintains a .266 batting average and averages 4.2 runs per game.
