CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - UNCG women's soccer led twice on Sunday before securing the 2-1 road win over Chattanooga. The Spartans victory over the Mocs is their fifth win in Southern Conference play this 2019 season, with senior striker Cienna Rideout collecting both of her team's tallies on the afternoon.

"Our team was very focused and committed in what we knew was going to be a tough game on the road versus a top-Chattanooga team," said Head Coach Michael Coll. "Two very good finishes from senior Cienna Rideout, and overall I thought we should have scored another. Chattanooga are a top-five SoCon team this year and we knew that we would have to be brave and aggressive in ball possession if we were serious about winning today. We didn't allow them to relax and feel at ease in any part of today's game, and it was an impressive team win."

Rideout's first finish came early against the Mocs, with the striker forcing a Chattanooga turnover in the home team's defensive end. After stripping the ball from the UTC backline, the Spartan striker used the last Moc defender to screen her shot from inside the 18, giving her side the 1-0 lead on a shot into the bottom left corner.

Chattanooga would find the equalizer just 13 minutes later however, and despite the Spartans leading 9-4 in the shooting category the score remained even at one apiece going into the break.

The Spartans retook their lead less than 12 minutes into the second, with Rideout once again delivering the finish. Picking up the ball on the right wing, midfielder Kaley Tucker delivered a cross to her teammate in the middle, who delivered the game-winning volley, despite having a Chattanooga defender draped over her back.

Starting goalkeeper Abby Buchholz would make three saves in the second half alone to help her team clinch the 2-1 victory, including a diving stop in the 75th off a Mocs free kick. The freshman finished the match with four saves in all, as the Spartans move to 5-2-0 in conference play.
