UNCG is coming off its ninth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history with a 15-5-1 overall record after repeating as SoCon Tournament champs for the third time, something no other current SoCon school has achieved. The 2019 squad returns nine starters, including the reigning SoCon Player of the Year and United Soccer Coaches’ All-Southeast Region Second-Team selection Cienna Rideout, SoCon Freshman Player of the Year Nicole Souply, SoCon First-Team member Marissa Ferrantino and second-teamers Grace Kennedy and Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper.
The Spartans will play two exhibition matches against Charlotte (Aug. 11) at home and at UNCW (August 16).
A Pair of Home Games Against Power Five schools: Arkansas (Aug. 22) and Iowa (Sept. 8)
The Spartans open the season against Arkansas. The Razorbacks have made five of the last six NCAA Tournaments and three-straight SEC Tournament Finals. Two weeks later Iowa will come to Greensboro for the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Home Action Against In-State Schools: Davidson (Sept. 12), Elon (Sept. 19), East Carolina (Sept. 22)
The Spartans play three additional non-conference games at home. UNCG faces former SoCon foe Davidson, with the Spartans owning five-straight wins over the Wildcats including a 2-1 road win last year. UNCG looks to avenge its only tie of the 2018 season against in-state rival Elon. American Athletic Conference member East Carolina closes out the nonconference slate for the Spartans.
Road Regional Play: Campbell (Aug. 25), Richmond (Aug. 30), High Point (Sept. 2) and Gardner-Webb (Sept. 15)
The Spartans won’t have to travel far in the non-conference. UNCG plays Campbell for the first time since 1997 and then heads northeast for its next game at Richmond, who the Spartans defeated 3-1 at home last season. UNCG squares off with Triad-rival High Point on Labor Day for the second-straight year and is looking for its eighth win in 10 games against the Panthers. The last road non-conference game for UNCG is the first-ever meeting against Gardner-Webb.
Home SoCon Matchups: The Citadel (Sept. 27), Mercer (Sept. 29), VMI (Oct. 11), Western Carolina (Oct. 25) and ETSU (Oct. 27)
UNCG will play one more SoCon game at home than on the road this season and face The Citadel and Mercer in the first weekend of conference action. The Spartans welcome VMI to Greensboro in its only game that weekend. UNCG closes out the regular season against Western Carolina and ETSU.
Road SoCon Matchups: Furman (Oct. 4), Wofford (Oct. 6), Samford (Oct. 18) and Chattanooga (Oct. 20)
The Spartans will play its four road SoCon games in a three-weekend span in October. UNCG heads to South Carolina in the first weekend of the month to play Furman and Wofford. The last pair of league games away from home are against Samford and Chattanooga.
SoCon Tournament: Oct. 30-Nov. 10
The 2019 SoCon Tournament starts three days after the regular season concludes with the first round with teams seeded seven-10. The top four seeds will host quarterfinal matchups that weekend with the semifinals and championship in Greensboro the following weekend.
