Women's Soccer Hosts Chattanooga Saturday In SoCon Tournament Quarterfinals
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s soccer team enters the 2017 Southern Conference Tournament as the third seed and will play host to sixth-seeded Chattanooga Saturday night in the quarterfinal round. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium and the game will be streamed on the SoCon Digital Network. Admission for the game is FREE for everyone.
The Spartans locked up the number three seed by posting a 5-2-2 record in SoCon play this season, including winning three-straight games to close out the year. UNCG picked up wins down the stretch over VMI, Mercer and The Citadel all coming at home in Greensboro. The Spartans raised their overall record to 8-7-3 with their three-straight wins and have posted four-straight shutouts heading into the SoCon Tournament, a stretch of 394:53 without allowing a goal.
The Spartans have scored 19 goals in 18 games this season while holding opponents to 22 goals against. Sophomore forward Cienna Rideout (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) and junior defender Emily Jensen (Nelson, New Zealand/Santa Clara) are tied for the team lead with 10 points each. Both player have scored four goals and dished out a pair of assists while Rideout scored three of her four goals in the regular season finale win over The Citadel. Senior Regan Lehman (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) is third on the team in scoring with three goals and two assists.
Freshman goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper has played 1466:47 in goal this season. Tyler-Cooper owns a 1.04 goals against average, an .819 save percentage and has posted six shutouts, including three-straight to end the regular season.
Saturday’s game marks the 23rd meeting all-time between UNCG and Chattanooga. The Spartans hold a commanding 17-3-2 overall record against the Mocs and are unbeaten in the last 13 meetings going 12-0-1. UNCG has out-scored Chattanooga 22-0 over the last six meetings, including a double overtime scoreless tie earlier this season on the road against the Mocs.
Chattanooga enters Saturday’s game with a 5-9-4 overall record and a 3-4-2 mark in Southern Conference play. The Mocs picked up the sixth seed in the tournament by going 2-1-2 over their last five games. Chattanooga picked up wins over The Citadel and Wofford while tying UNCG and Mercer during its current run.
The Mocs have scored 14 goals in 18 games while allowing 24 goals against. Only three Moc players have scored this season with Chloe Arnold leading the team with seven goals. Jordan Mueller has five goals and three assists while Catherine Meyer has scored two goals. Chattanooga plays two goalkeepers and Melia Correa leads the team with 997:08 in goal with a 1.53 goals against average. Bailey Coppedge has played 725:47 in goal for the Mocs and owns a 1.36 goals against average.
