GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s soccer team slogged through a 0-0 double overtime tie against Southern Conference foe Chattanooga Sunday morning at Finley Stadium. The game was played through a driving rain and moved up to an earlier start time due to inclement weather in Chattanooga from Hurricane Nate. The victory moves the Spartans to 5-7-3 overall on the year and 2-2-2 in SoCon play.

The two teams combined for 24 total shots, with UNCG holding a 14-10 edge, including a 7-3 advantage in the two overtime periods. The Spartans pushed throughout the game looking for the go-ahead goal but the overtime periods saw them put pressure on the Mocs even more. Freshman forward Isabel Pearce (Pittsboro, N.C./Woods Charter School) led the team with three shots off the bench, including a pair of shots in the first overtime period.

Freshman goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper (Charlottesville, Va./Albermarle) recorded her fourth shutout of the season Sunday. Tyler-Cooper posted six saves in 110 minutes for the clean slate, lowering her goals against average on the season to 1.19.

Chattanooga (3-8-3, 1-3-1 SoCon) snapped a 12-game losing streak in the all-time series against the Spartans with the scoreless tie. The Mocs picked up picked up four saves from goalkeeper Melia Correa to post the shutout while Catherine Meyer led all players with four shots on the game.

The Spartans will play their last three regular season games of the year at home at the UNCG Soccer Stadium, beginning next Sunday when they host VMI. Game time is set for 2 p.m. and admission is FREE. The Spartans also host Mercer (Oct. 20) and The Citadel (Oct. 22) in their final regular season games.
