GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s soccer’s 2018 schedule was released on Wednesday, head coach Michael Coll announced. The 18-game regular season features nine games played at UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, including a Sept. 12 matchup against NC State.
The Spartans will play three schools each from the Atlantic-10 (Richmond, Davidson and VCU) and Big South (Gardner-Webb, Longwood and High Point) and a pair of Colonial Athletic Association members (Elon and UNCW). UNCG will face five Southern Conference opponents on the road: VMI, The Citadel, Mercer, Western Carolina and ETSU. Furman, Wofford, Chattanooga and Samford will come to Greensboro.
UNCG will square off against Winthrop (Aug. 10) and James Madison (Aug. 12) in home exhibitions before opening the season on Aug. 17 against Gardner-Webb in Greensboro. The first road game of the year will be at Elon on Aug. 19. After facing Richmond (Aug. 24) and UNCW (Aug. 26) at home, the Spartans will end the month at Longwood (Aug. 31).
Triad-foe High Point will play the Spartans for the seventh-straight season in Greensboro on Sept. 3. UNCG will face two more in-state opponents afterwards, at Davidson on Sept. 7 and NC State. The matchup against Davidson will be the first in the last five years in as the two schools played every year from 1989-2013 before the Wildcats left the SoCon. The Wolfpack have won three games in the NCAA Tournament the last two years. The non-conference portion of the schedule wraps up with a road game at VCU (Sept. 19).
SoCon play will start with three road games: VMI (Sept. 21), The Citadel (Sept. 28) and Mercer (Sept. 30). The last two league road matchups will see UNCG head west for a weekend to play Western Carolina (Oct. 12) and ETSU (Oct. 14).
UNCG plays its first conference action at home on Alumni Weekend against Furman (Oct. 5) and Wofford (Oct. 7). The regular season comes to an end after home games against Chattanooga (Oct. 19) and Samford (Oct. 21).
The SoCon Tournament will begin Oct. 24 with the first round, and the quarterfinals will be played four days later. Both rounds will be hosted by the higher seed. The semifinals and championship game will be played Nov. 2 and 4 on the campus of Mercer in Macon, Georgia.
