Women's Soccer Hits The Road For Two-Game Swing At Samford And Chattanooga
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s soccer team makes its longest road swing of the Southern Conference season this weekend as the Spartans travel to Samford Friday night at 8 p.m. (ET) before battling Chattanooga Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on the SoCon Digital Network for free in full HD with links available at www.uncgspartans.com.
The Spartans enter the weekend with a 5-6-2 overall record and a 2-1-1 mark in Southern Conference play. UNCG is coming off a 1-0-1 record last weekend, posting a 2-0 victory over ETSU before tying Western Carolina 2-2. The Spartans have scored 13 goals in 13 games and have allowed 20 goals against this season.
Junior defender Emily Jensen (Nelson, New Zealand/Santa Clara) leads the Spartans in scoring with eight total points, scoring three goals and handing out two assists. Jensen has scored two game-winning goals this year, finding the winner against High Point and Wofford.
Freshman Quiqui Hita (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) and senior Regan Lehman (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) are tied for second on the team in scoring with two goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Heida Ragney Vidarsdottir (Akureyri, Iceland) has scored two goals in the last two games, both coming last weekend at home.
Freshman goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper (Charlottesville, Va./Albermarle) has taken over the starting spot for the Spartans and has a 1.24 goals against average with three shutouts. Tyler-Cooper has made 58 saves this season while playing 1086:47 in goal.
Friday’s game marks the 11th meeting all-time between UNCG and Samford. The Spartans trail the all-time series by a 4-5-1 margin and have dropped three-straight in the series, all by 1-0 scores. UNCG last defeated Samford in the 2013 season by a 3-0 score in Greensboro. Samford enters Friday’s game with a 7-5-1 overall record and a perfect 3-0-0 mark in SoCon play. The Bulldogs are riding a seven-game unbeaten streak at 6-0-1, including wins over Western Carolina, ETSU and Chattanooga.
Samford has scored 20 goals in 13 games while allowing 15 goals against. Jermaine Seoposenwe leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 16 total points in the strength of seven goals and two assists. Karrie Sauder is second on the team with three goals and two assists while Ella Baggett and Kaitlyn Orman have each scored a pair of goals. Anna Maddox has played 1107:06 in goal and owns a 1.14 goals against average with five shutouts and 40 saves.
Chattanooga enters the weekend with a 3-7-2 overall record and a 1-2-0 mark in league play. The Mocs will play host to VMI Friday evening, marking their first home game since Sept. 3. Chattanooga has dropped league games at ETSU and Samford while posting a 1-0 victory over Western Carolina. The Mocs have scored nine goals in in 12 games while allowing 22 goals against.
Chloe Arnold leads the team with four goals scored while Jordan Mueller has scored three goals and dished out a team-best three assists. The Mocs have played two goalkeepers primarily with Melia Correa owning a 2.01 goals against average in 670 minutes of play with 46 saves. Bailey Coppedge has played 450 minutes in goal with 1.40 goals against average and 16 saves.
Sunday’s game marks the 22nd meeting all-time between UNCG and Chattanooga. The Spartans hold a commanding 17-3-1 mark all-time against the Mocs, including 12-straight wins in the series. UNCG has shutout Chattanooga five-straight times, out-scoring the Mocs 22-0 over that span.
