GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s soccer will look to defeat its second Big South Conference opponent in as many matches on Friday when hosting Longwood at 7 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
The game will be streamed live on the SoCon Digital Network with Kenny Mann on the call. Additionally, a link to live stats is available at UNCGSpartans.com.
The Blue and Gold are coming off of a 1-0 road victory Monday night at Triad rival High Point. Despite the slim margin, UNCG largely controlled the pace of play throughout the affair, ultimately outshooting the Panthers 22-13 and earning eight corner kicks while surrendering just one.
Emily Jensen (Nelson, New Zealand/Santa Clara) scored her second goal of the season and her collegiate career to secure the victory for the Spartans. Jensen’s header was set up by a superb in-swinging corner off of the foot of Gabbi Charles (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville), giving the defender a team-high two assists on the year.
The Lancers come into Friday’s match with a 4-2-0 record, including a 1-1 mark away from Farmville, Virginia. Entering on a three-match winning streak, Longwood fell to Virginia Tech 1-0 on the road on Monday.
LU’s defense is spearheaded by goalkeeper Maria Kirby, who was recently named the Big South Player of the Week for a school-record fourth time in her career. Kirby has played every minute in goal for the Lancers and has allowed just three goals with a .857 save percentage.
Offensively Longwood utilizes a balanced attack, with all six goals on the year being scored by a different player. Emilie Kupsov easily paces the Lancers with 21 shots, 11 more than the next closest player.
