Women’s Soccer Signs Three High School Standouts
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Fourth-year UNCG women’s soccer head coach Michael Coll announced the signings of three high school standouts to National Letters of Intent Friday. Joining the Spartans in the fall include Kelley Mitchell (Wilmington, Del./Concord/FC Delco), Jeanine Valera (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North/NSA Premier) and Quiqui Hita (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep SC Del Sol).
Mitchell, a 5-8 goalkeeper, is a four-year letterwinner at Concord High School for coach Larry Jacobs. She was a First Team All-State selection and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. She played club soccer for two seasons with FC Delco (2013-14) before playing the past three seasons with Penn Fusion for coach Craig Scangarella.
“Kelley has played a starting role as goalkeeper for Penn Fusion at the Elite Clubs level for years now.” Coll said. “She is a vocal organizer to her defense and her height and physical presence plus very strong kicking game will allow her to compete strongly at the D1 level right away.”
Valera, a 5-4 attacking central midfielder, was a two-year letterwinner at Naperville North High School for coach Steve Goletz. She guided the Huskies to a No. 6 final ranking in the nation in 2016 as Naperville North ran off a 23-game winning streak, including 19 shutouts. She also played two seasons at Wheeling High School (2014-15). She played club soccer for NSA Premier for head coach Bonnie Yound and helped them win the Disney Tournament championship.
“Jeanine is an offensive center midfielder from Illinois,” Coll said. “She is very quick on the dribble and can create many dangerous things in the attack when she is on the ball. She has played at a very good level with Naperville Soccer and strong coaches have developed her at the youth and select level over the last four years.”
Hita, a 5-6 forward, is a four-year letterwinner at Xavier College Prep for head coach Barb Chura. During her career, she guided the Gators to the 2013 State Championship and semifinal appearances in the state tournament in 2014 and 2016. She was a two-time All-Region selection and earned Second Team All-Division I as a senior. She played club soccer for SC Del Sol for coach Les Armstrong. She helped her team to the Final 8 of the ECNL Nationals and a No. 1 ranking enter the playoffs. Additionally, she was part of the U-14 National Team Pool.
“Over the last couple of season Quiqui has played with SC Del Sol, who are one of the most successful teams in her age group at the Elite Clubs National League level,” Coll said. “Her coach Les Armstrong is very well known for developing many successful young players and he knows that Quiqui has all the tools to succeed at the college level quickly at UNCG. She has been recruited as a two way central midfielder who will mainly be looked at as an attacking center mid, but if needed, we know she has strong defensive midfield skills too.”
