GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 2019 UNC Greensboro men’s soccer schedule has been released, and the Spartans’ first season under head coach Chris Rich will begin against George Washington on Friday, Aug. 30 at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
The game will mark the first of 17 regular season games for the Spartans and one of 11 non-conference contests.
“We are looking forward to the 2019 season,” Rich said. “The schedule is very competitive and will prove to be challenging, but we are excited for the opportunity to compete within the Southern Conference and against some of the top teams in the region.”
Season Opener Followed By Two Key Road Contests
The aforementioned contest against George Washington will mark the beginning of the 2019 season for UNCG. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Following the opener, the Spartans will hit the road for a pair of games starting with a tilt against Radford on Monday, Sept. 2 and then a matchup with Clemson on Sept. 6.
A Clash With The Tar Heels
UNCG will return home for a highly anticipated contest against North Carolina on Monday, Sept. 9. Last season, the Tar Heels finished with a 14-4-1 overall record and were ranked No. 1 in the country during a portion of the regular season.
The game will mark the 14th all-time meeting between the two schools, as UNCG will be looking for its fourth victory in the series.
Remaining In North Carolina For The Final Six Non-Conference Games
The Spartans will not leave the state of North Carolina through the latter stages of September and into the beginning of October, first traveling to Campbell (Sept. 13) and then UNC Asheville (Sept. 18). That pair of games will be followed by a home contest against Appalachian State (Sept. 21) and another road game, this time against Elon (Sept. 25).
The Spartans will begin the month of October at Davidson (Oct. 1) and High Point (Oct. 5).
Conference Play Through The Rest Of October
The Spartans will begin their six-game trip through SoCon regular season action on Saturday, Oct. 12 taking on VMI. Three days later on Oct. 15, UNCG will travel to Nashville to tangle with Belmont before hosting Wofford on Saturday, Oct. 19 for Homecoming.
The Spartans’ final three SoCon regular season games will be against Furman (Oct. 22), ETSU (Oct. 26) and Mercer (Oct. 29).
The final regular season game will take place Saturday, Nov. 2 against Old Dominion at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
The SoCon Tournament will take place between Nov. 5-17 on campus sites of the higher seed.
