GREENSBORO, N.C.- Former UNC Greensboro men’s soccer player Leeroy Maguraushe has signed with San Antonio FC for the 2019 USL Championship season, the club has announced.
Maguraushe recently completed one of the most successful careers put together by a UNCG men’s soccer player. In four seasons with the Spartans, the Milton Keynes, England, native recorded 14 assists along with 13 goals. He was also just the second Spartan ever to be selected as an All-Southern Conference first-team selection four consecutive years.
Additionally, Maguraushe was named to the United Soccer Coaches’ 2018 Senior College Men’s Scholar All-America Team for Division I and was a three-time all-region selection as well.
In 2015, he garnered SoCon Freshman of the Year honors.
“I’m very grateful and excited to be joining this great organization,” Maguraushe said via SanAntonioFC.com. “I would like to thank San Antonio FC and Darren Powell for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. Playing professionally has always been something I dreamt of, but this is just the beginning. I can’t wait to get to the city and start preparing for the upcoming season.”
Powell, the current head coach of San Antonio FC and fellow UNCG Men’s Soccer alum, added: “He is a versatile midfielder who has good athleticism and good temperament. He is going to come in here and compete with the squad from day one.”
The 2019 season will begin on Saturday, March 9, when the club faces Phoenix Rising FC at Toyota Field.
