GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s soccer team closes out the home portion of the 2017 regular season Tuesday night as the Spartans welcome in VMI. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium and will be streamed on the SoCon Digital Network with links available at www.uncgspartans.com.

The Spartans enter Tuesday’s game with an 8-6-2 overall record and a 5-2-1 mark in Southern Conference play. UNCG is currently tied with ETSU for first place in the league with 16 points with two games remaining in the regular season. The Spartans can clinch a top-two seed and a first round bye in the upcoming SoCon Tournament with a win over VMI Tuesday. A win over the Keydets coupled with a loss by ETSU on the road at Mercer would clinch at least a share of the SoCon regular season title.

The Spartans have posted a 4-1-0 mark over their last five games, including a 6-1 victory at Wofford and a 2-1 double overtime win Saturday night against Mercer. UNCG has scored 21 goals in 16 games this season while limiting opponents to just 13 goals against.

Freshman forward Nelson Oceano (Berlin, Germany) leads the team in scoring with three goals and four assists, good for 10 total points. Junior midfielder Leeroy Maguraushe (Milton Keynes, England) is second on the team in scoring at nine total points, having scored three goals and dished out three assists. Maguraushe scored the game-winning goal against Mercer Saturday night, converting a penalty kick in the second overtime period.

Sophomore forward Faisal Almubaslat (Greensboro, N.C./Northern Guilford) has scored two goals and dished out two assists on the year, good for six points. Junior forward Matt Mattis (Little Stoke, England) has also tallied three goals and sophomore defender Casey Penland (High Point, N.C./High Point Christian) has scored two goals and dished out an assist.

Junior goalkeeper Jon Milligan (Mount Pleasant, S.C./Wando) has played 1513:51 in goal and owns a SoCon-leading 0.77 goals against average. Milligan boasts a .800 save percentage and has recorded eight shutouts on the year to lead the league.

Tuesday’s game marks the 16th meeting all-time between UNCG and VMI. The Spartans hold a dominating 15-0-0 mark against the Keydets, including two wins last season by a combined 12-1 score. UNCG posted a 4-0 victory in Lexington before sweeping the season series by an 8-1 margin. Since VMI returned to the SoCon in 2014, the Spartans have out-scored the Keydets 38-2 in six games. Earlier this season, UNCG posted a 2-0 victory over the Keydets in Lexington as Mattis and Cyril Olowabi (Manchester, England) picked up the goals.

VMI enters Tuesday’s game with a 0-13-2 overall record and an 0-8-0 mark in SoCon play. The Keydets have been shutout for seven-straight games, last scoring against Mercer Sept. 30. The Keydets have scored four goals in 15 games this year with David Wright and Wilson Tuck each scoring two goals. VMI has surrendered 60 goals this season while playing two goalkeepers. Jon Harrington has played 919:47 and owns a 3.82 goals against average while Robert Allen has played 470:13 and has a 4.02 goals against average.
