GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s soccer team plays its second-straight road game Tuesday afternoon as the Spartans travel to Lexington, Va., for a Southern Conference meeting with VMI. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Patchin Field and the game will be streamed on the SoCon Digital Network with links available at www.uncgspartans.com.

The Spartans are coming off an impressive 1-0 double overtime victory at defending Southern Conference Tournament champion Mercer Saturday night. The victory marked the first loss of the year for the Bears in league play and moved the Spartans into second place in the SoCon standings with a 2-1-1 league mark, good for seven points. UNCG trails ETSU by one point for first place (2-0-2) with the Buccaneers set to visit UNCG Saturday night.

The Spartans own a 5-5-2 overall record on the season and are 5-1-1 in their last six games, out-scoring opponents by an 8-2 margin during that span with six shutouts. Eight different Spartans have scored goals this season with junior midfielder Leeroy Maguraushe (Milton Keynes, England) leading the way with two goals and two assists. Junior forward Matt Mattis (Little Stoke, England) has also scored two goals while freshman midfielder Nelson Oceano (Berlin, Germany) has a goal and two assists.

Junior goalkeeper Jon Milligan (Mount Pleasant, S.C./Wando) has played every minute in goal for UNCG at 1143:14. He leads the SoCon with a 0.71 goals against average, a .816 save percentage and seven shutouts while ranking second with 40 saves. During the Spartans’ 5-1-1 stretch over the last seven games, Milligan has a 0.27 goals against average with a .917 save percentage and six shutouts.

Tuesday’s game marks the 15th meeting all-time between UNCG and VMI. The Spartans hold a dominating 14-0-0 mark against the Keydets, including two wins last season by a combined 12-1 score. UNCG posted a 4-0 victory in Lexington before sweeping the season series by an 8-1 margin. Since VMI returned to the SoCon in 2014, the Spartans have out-scored the Keydets 36-2 in six games.

VMI enters Tuesday’s game with an 0-8-2 overall record and an 0-3-0 mark in SoCon play. The Keydets have dropped games at Furman (0-4) at Mercer (1-4) and vs. ETSU (0-5). This season, VMI has scored four goals while allowing 37 goals against in 10 games.

David Wright and Wilson Tuck are tied for the team lead with two goals apiece. VMI has played two goalkeepers this year with Jon Harrington leading the way with 761:23 in goal. Harrington has a 3.55 goals against average and a .605 save percentage. Robert Allen has played 178:37 in goal and owns a 3.53 goals against average.
