GREENSBORO, N.C. –UNCG junior goalkeeper Jon Milligan (Mount Pleasant, S.C./Wando) has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Month for September, the league office announced Thursday. Milligan won back-to-back SoCon Player of the Week honors to close out the month and led all league goalkeepers in each category in September.
Milligan posted five-straight shutouts to end the month of September, helping the Spartans to a 4-3-1 record during the month. He earned SoCon Player of the Week honors the last two weeks of September, earning his first after a pair of 1-0 victories over Appalachian State and Campbell.
Milligan earned his second weekly honor as he opened league play with two-straight shutouts, holding defending league champion ETSU scoreless in a 0-0 tie and leading the Spartans to a 2-0 win over No. 18 Furman. He posted a season-high seven saves against North Carolina and boasted a SoCon-best 0.60 goals against average in the month of September.
Milligan and the Spartans hit the road Saturday night as they travel to Macon, Ga., facing off against Mercer at 7 p.m. The game begins a stretch where UNCG plays three out of its next four games on the road.
