JOHNSON CITY, TENN. - UNC Greensboro’s men’s soccer team will look to capture its seventh Southern Conference Tournament title when it faces Furman on Sunday afternoon.

Kickoff for the matchup between No. 5 seeded UNCG and No. 3 seeded Furman is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Spartans In 2018
The Spartans continued their recent winning ways on Friday afternoon, knocking off Mercer 1-0 in the SoCon Tournament semifinals. Not only were the Bears the No. 1 seed this year, but were two-time defending champions before the Spartans were able to defeat them off on a soggy afternoon in Johnson City. The outcome was also the third straight 1-0 decision for UNCG, which have all been victories.

UNCG has not conceded a goal in its last three games as Jon Milligan has recorded two straight shutouts while Milligan and Ricky Zarri shared time in the net in UNCG’s 1-0 victory over Furman in the regular season finale.

Offensively, UNCG’s top-two goal scorers have been Jacob Planell (five) and Alex Henderson (three), who netted the game-winner against Mercer.

In the preseason coaches’ poll, UNCG was picked to win the conference.

Series History
Sunday’s meeting will be the 41th all-time matchup between the two SoCon opponents with the Spartans holding a 20-16-4 advantage in the series.

A Look At Furman
The Paladins earned the No. 3 seed in the SoCon Tournament after finishing the regular season with a 10-6-1 record and 4-2-0 in SoCon play. In the quarterfinals and semifinals of the SoCon Tournament, Furman beat Belmont and ETSU respectively.

The Paladins are led by Ben Hale, who was named SoCon Goalkeeper of the Year while Emery May and Laurence Wyke each have scored seven goals.
