GREENSBORO, N.C.- After 10 non-conference games to open the 2018 season, UNC Greensboro’s men’s soccer team this Saturday will begin Southern Conference play when it hosts Belmont at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Spartans In 2018
The Spartans begin conference play on the heels of a non-conference slate in which they collected a 4-6-0 record. UNCG won its first two games of the season on the road against Presbyterian and Longwood respectively before losing four consecutive contests.
UNCG, however, has won its last two games at UNCG Soccer Stadium, both in overtime. First, Leeroy Maguraushe dazzled with a double overtime winner against Elon on Sept. 18 before Jacob Planell sunk Campbell with an overtime winner on Sept. 25.
This matchup will mark only the second ever meeting between the two programs, with the first coming on Sept. 10, 2006. That game went the Spartans’ way in a 5-2 decision.
A Look At Belmont
The Bruins enter the SoCon opener with a 2-6-1 record, most recently falling to SIU Edwardsville by a 2-0 final. Belmont opened the season with three consecutive losses including two against opponents (Appalachian State and Campbell) that UNCG faced this season. The Bruins’ first win was a 1-0 final against Presbyterian in double overtime before being Eastern Illinois as well.
Belmont is an associate member of the SoCon in men's soccer only.
