Leeroy Maguraushe Named SoCon Player Of The Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG junior midfielder Leeroy Maguraushe (Milton Keynes, England) has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning. This marks the third time in Maguraushe’s career he has earned the weekly honor and the first since his freshman campaign.
Maguraushe, a preseason All-SoCon selection, led the Spartans to a 2-0 victory Saturday night over UNC Asheville in Greensboro. He scored his first goal of the season, notching the game-winning tally in the 33rd minute of play, striking a volley from the top of the 18-yard box off a corner kick. He gave the Spartans some breathing room in the 63rd minute of play as he set up classmate and fellow Englishman Matt Mattis (Little Stoke, England) on the counter attach for his third point of the game.
Maguraushe has scored 10 goals and dished out nine assists so far in his UNCG career, good for 29 career points. Maguraushe and the Spartans return to action Wednesday evening as they travel to Buies Creek for a non-conference meeting with Campbell at 7 p.m.
