Josh Gillon Named To U14 National Team Coaching Staff
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men’s soccer assistant coach Josh Gillon has been called in to join the staff of the United State Soccer Federation U14 National Team for head coach Clint Peay for the teams’ November 13-20 camp in Los Angeles. A group of 48 players have been invited to the camp and will play a set of friendlies while training before and after. The Stub Hub Center, home of Major League Soccer's LA Galaxy, will host the team and staff for the duration of the camp.
Gillon is in his first year with the Spartans as a volunteer assistant coach/goalkeeper coach and has helped the Spartans post a 11-6-2 record overall. Under his guidance, senior goalkeeper Logan Rohde (Cary, N.C./Greensboro College) owns a 1.07 goals against average with six shutouts this season.
Gillon is also the Director of Goalkeeping at the North Carolina Fusion/Greensboro United. He spent the last three seasons in US Soccer's Development Academy coaching the North Carolina Fusion and caught the eye of Peay after working with him a few times over the past few months during US Soccer Marketing Training Centers. This is a chance for US Soccer coaches and scouts to train players that are being monitored by the US National Team.
"It's every players dream to represent their country, for me, I was never close to good enough and this is my profession now so to be invited is the biggest accomplishment of my career,” Gillian said. “It's so humbling for me, I've worked with so many great people, coaches and players. I'm so fortunate to be put in this position and have been given this chance.”
