GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team returns to action Monday for the Pinehurst Challenge hosted by the College of Charleston at Pinehurst No. 1. The two-day, 54-hole event will begin Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for 36-holes. Day two will be an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for the third and final round. Live scoring for the event will be held at www.golfstatresults.com.

The Pinehurst Challenge consists of 19 teams including the Spartans, College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Elon, Georgia State, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Maryland, Nebraska, North Florida, Old Dominion, Presbyterian, Samford, Towson, UAB and William & Mary.

UNCG enters the Pinehurst Challenge carrying three-straight top-10 finishes on the year. The Spartans are coming off their top performance so far, placing fourth overall at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic. UNCG ranks fourth in the Southern Conference as a team with a 297.33 stroke average through nine rounds.

Freshman Tara Bettle (Hohen Neuendorf, Germany) holds the top spot in the lineup at the Pinehurst Challenge. Bettle ranks first on the team and eighth in the SoCon with a 73.44 stroke average. She has posted two top-20 finishes this season, including a career-best ninth place showing last time out at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic. She leads all SoCon freshmen this year in stroke average.

Freshman Keri Kenkel (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) is second in the lineup this week and ranks third on the team with a 75.44 stroke average. She is 16th in the SoCon in stroke average and is fourth among all league freshmen. She is coming off a 17th place finish at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic.

Junior Natalia Asensio (Madrid, Spain/Cardenal Spinola) returns to the starting lineup this week after finishing 15th at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic playing as an individual. Asensio ranks second on the team and 15th in the league with a 75.22 stroke average.

Sophomore Louisa Tichy (Germering, Germany) owns a 75.78 stroke average this season and posted her best finish of the year at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic, placing 13th overall.

Sophomore Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, N.C./Northern Guilford) closes out the Spartans’ lineup this week. She ranks 19th in the SoCon with a 75.56 stroke average and finished 14th at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic last week. Freshman Sara Rydman (Taby, Sweden) will play in her fourth event of the year and the second time playing as an individual. She owns a 78.00 stroke average through the first nine rounds.
