GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team hosts its annual fall tournament Monday and Tuesday as the Spartans welcome in 11 other teams for the Starmount Forest Fall Classic at the Starmount Forest Country Club. The two-day, 54-hole event will begin Monday with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start for 36-holes. Day two will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start for the third and final round. Live scoring for the event will be held at www.golfstatresults.com.
The Starmount Forest Fall Classic consists of 12 total teams on the par-72, 6,168-yard course. Joining the Spartans in the field includes Boston, Campbell, The Citadel, High Point, Marshall, N.C. A&T, Tennessee Tech, Western Carolina, William & Mary, Winthrop and Wofford.
Last year, the Spartans finished fourth overall at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic with a 927 score. Tennessee Tech won the team title last season with a 913 score and returns to defend its title. Hollee Sadler of TTU won the individual title overall with a 6-over par 219 score.
The Spartans enter the tournament after posting two top-10 finishes so far this season and ranks second in the Southern Conference with a 294.17 team average per round through six rounds. Sophomore Louisa Tichy (Germering, Germany) earns the top spot in the lineup this week as she ranks second on the team and 11th in the SoCon with a 73.83 stroke average. Tichy is coming off a 13th place finish at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic with a 3-over par 219.
Sophomore Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, N.C./Northern Guilford) is second in the lineup this week and owns a 75.67 stroke average on the season. Dobbins posted a 26th place finish at the Ptarmigan last time out with a 6-over par 222 score.
Freshman Tara Bettle (Hohen Neuendorf, Germany) leads the Spartans and ranks sixth in the SoCon with a 73.00 stroke average. Bettle opened her season and collegiate career with a 16th place finish at the Jim West Challenge, recording a 68 in her first career collegiate round.
Freshman Keri Kenkel (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) plays in the lineup for the third time this season and owns a 75.17 stroke average. Kenkel’s best round of the season came at the Jim West with an even-par 72.
Freshman Sara Rydman (Taby, Sweden) rounds out the lineup with her first chance in the top-five this season. Rydman played the first two events of the year as an individual and averaged 76.17 strokes per round. Junior Natalia Asensio (Madrid, Spain/Cardenal Spinola) will play as an individual at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic and owns a 75.00 stroke average this season.
