WALLACE, N.C. – Due to play being suspended Monday night near the completion of the second round because of darkness and winter weather in the area on Tuesday, the final two rounds of the River Landing Classic have been cancelled. As a result, UNC Greensboro women’s golf has finished the tournament at 20-over 308 and tied for 10th place alongside Georgetown.
“We were making really good strides in the second round,” said Head Coach Janell Howland. “It’s unfortunate that Mother Nature didn’t want to see us finish it. This will be a good learning experience for the team that we have to be ready to go from the start and every shot and every hole matters.”
Sophomore Tara Bettle (73) finished tied for eighth place, as she finished the first round at one-over. Bettle recorded a birdie on Hole 6 against two bogeys.
Senior Natalia Asensio (77) finished her first tournament of the spring tied for 40th place after she carded a five-over 77 in the first round. The round was highlighted by a birdie on Hole 9.
Rounding out team play was freshman Hailey Joy (84) who finished tied for 81st place at 12-over.
Participating in individual play, junior Kendall Dobbins (81) completed the first round at nine-over and finished tied for 70th place.
The Spartans will head west for their next tournament, as UNCG will be participating in the Clover Cup which is taking place March 15-17 at Longbow Country Club in Mesa, Ariz.
