WALLACE, N.C. –UNC Greensboro women’s golf is in ninth place after the conclusion of the first day of the River Landing Classic that is taking place at River Landing Club. The Spartans in the first round recorded a team score of 308 before the second round was suspended just before completion due to darkness.

The conclusion of the second round along with the entirety of the third round will begin tomorrow morning and live coverage can be found on Golfstat.com.

The Spartans were led by sophomore Tara Bettle (73) through the first 18 holes of the tournament. In the first round, Bettle carded a one-over 73, as she was over-par just twice in the round while birding Hole 6.  As scoring currently stands, Bettle is tied for fifth place at one-over for the tournament.

“I played a really solid first round today with one birdie and only two bogeys,” Bettle said. “I hit a lot of fairways and greens, which definitely helped me to make that many pars. We were not able to finish our second round today because it was getting dark, but I hope the team and I can finish our rounds strong in the morning and then head into a focused third round.”

Senior Natalia Asensio (77), who is participating in her first tournament this spring, is currently tied for 11th place after a strong showing so far in the second round. After completing the first round at five-over, Asensio is currently three-under through 13 holes in the second round. She carded four birdies on the front-nine of the second round.

Fellow senior Lexi Kershaw (79), meanwhile, is tied for 57th place through 16 holes in the second round. In the first round, Kershaw posted a seven-over 79 with a birdie on both the front- and back-nine.

Freshman Hailey Joy (84), who is also participating in her first tournament of the spring, is currently tied for 68th place at 14-over.

Rounding out team play is sophomore Keri Kenkel (79), as she also finished the first round at seven-over and is currently tied for 73rd place at 15-over.

Junior Kendall Dobbins (81) completed the first round at nine-over and is currently ninth among golfers participating in individual play.
