GREENSBORO, N.C.- Hosting the annual Starmount Fall Classic at Starmount Forest Country Club, UNC Greensboro’s women’s golf team (305-292) currently sits in second place behind only Tennessee after the first two rounds. Live stats for Tuesday’s third and final round will be available on BirdieFire.com.
“We got off to a slow start this morning. However, I’m proud of how they bounced back in the afternoon,” said Head Coach Janell Howland. “We just need to do a better job of starting strong. Looking forward to seeing what they can do tomorrow in the final round.”
Senior Lexi Kershaw was third on the team with a six-over par 78 in the first round before completing her second round at even 72.
Sophomore Keri Kenkel finished with an eight-over par 80 in the first round before lowering her second round score to four-over 76.
Sophomore Tara Bettle was one-over par 73 in the first round, including birding the final two holes to finish two-under par 34 on the back nine to lead the team. However, the sophomore finished the second round at three-under 69, as she collected three birdies without a single hole over par for the round.
“The first round today was pretty solid, I made lots of birdies which helped to keep my score together,” said Bettle. “In the afternoon, I was able to make 15 pars and three birdies, which made a 69 and my first bogey free round.
After a rather slow start for the team in the morning, I am super happy that we were able to come back the way we did. We are in a good spot for tomorrow, which we still can improve.”
Junior Louisa Tichy finished fourth on the team with a seven-over par 79 in the first round as freshman Hailey Joy, meanwhile, was second on the team with a three-over par 75, including an ever par 36 on the back nine, in the first round. The two finished the second round at three-over and seven-over in the second round respectively.
