GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s golf head coach Janell Howland has announced the signing of former Ole Miss golfer Sofia Idoyaga for the 2018-19 season. Idoyaga earned two letters for the Ole Miss Rebels before missing last season.
“We are so excited to have Sofia join us this fall.” Howland said, “She brings some great experience with her that will help push and build this team. We are looking forward to getting her on campus.”
In Oxford, Idoyaga competed in 43 rounds in two seasons. During her sophomore season, she scored an average of 80.5 strokes per round and finished with her best round of 77 in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Hawai’i. During the fall of her sophomore season, she averaged an even 79 strokes per round and posted a 76-82-73 at the Ridgeway Country Club in Memphis. She fired a career-low round of 73 in the final round of the Samford Intercollegiate during the spring of 2015.
Prior to her collegiate career, Idoyaga ranked No. 7 in the Argentina Association of Golf (AAG) junior rankings and No. 11 in the country’s amateur rankings. A native of Buenos Aries, she ranked as the sixth-best junior player in Argentina and won five consecutive Metropolitan region tournaments from 2009-13.
