GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team opens the spring season with the annual Kiawah Island Classic hosted by the College of Charleston Feb. 25-27 at the Kiawah Island Resort Osprey Point and Oak Point Course. The three-day, 54-hole event will begin Sunday with the Spartans set to play with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun from holes No. 10-12 live scoring will be available each day at www.golfstatresults.com.

The Kiawah Island Classic is the largest collegiate golf event in the country, featuring 43 teams. The teams will play the first two days on the Osprey Point Course while the final day will see the top 22 teams play on Osprey Point and teams ranked 23-43 will play on the Oak Point Course.

Joining the Spartans in the field includes Bethune Cookman, Boston University, Bucknell, Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, East Tennessee State, Elon, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgia Southern, Georgetown, Hampton, High Point, Indiana State, IUPUI, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Longwood, Marshall, Navy, UNCW, Murray State, North Florida, Omaha, Presbyterian, Quinnipiac, Richmond, Samford, Sandhills Community College, SCAD, Stephen F. Austin, Stetson, St. John’s, South Dakota, Tennessee Tech, Towson, USC Upstate, UT Arlington, Western Carolina, Western Kentucky and William & Mary

Freshman Tara Bettle (Hohen Neuendorf, Germany) leads the Spartans with a 74.07 stroke average, which ranks seventh in the SoCon. Bettle has the second-lowest freshman stroke average so far this year and has posted two top-20 finishes this season. She finished 36th overall at the Pinehurst Challenge.

Sophomore Louisa Tichy (Germering, Germany) holds the second spot in the lineup this week after posting three top-20 finishes in the spring. Tichy is second on the team with a 74.73 stroke average and is coming off an 18th place finish at the Palmetto Intercollegiate to close out the fall.

Junior Natalia Asensio (Madrid, Spain/Cardenal Spinola) owns a 76.13 stroke average in 15 rounds of play this year. Asensio’s best finish came at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic where she placed 15th overall.

Freshman Keri Kenkel (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) placed 36th at the Pinehurst Challenge and had her best showing at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic with a 17th place showing .She is third on the team with a 75.47 stroke average.

Sophomore Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, N.C./Northern Guilford) rounds out the lineup and is fourth on the team with a 76.00 stroke average. Dobbins posted two top-30 finishes this season, including a 14th place effort at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic.
