GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s golf head coach Janell Howland has announced the signing of Hailey Joy (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County) to a national letter of intent. Joy will join the Spartans for the 2018-19 season as a freshman.
“We are so excited to have Hailey join us next fall,” Howland said. “She is a great young lady with high aspirations for her future. She brings so much experience with her, being a part of three-straight high school championship teams. She knows how to win with an individual title this year as well. We couldn’t be more proud of her and happy to have her be a Spartan.”
Joy is a four-year letterwinner at Rockingham County High School for coach Mike Williams. Led the Cougars to three-straight North Carolina 3A state championships from 2015-17, including helping the team break the state scoring record for lowest 9-hole scoring record as a team.
Joy won the 2017 3A State individual championship and was named to the All-State Team in 2016. She is a four-time All-Mid-State Conference selection and was named the Mid-State Conference Player of the Year. During her career, the Cougars have won four-straight Regional Championships. She earned the 2016 Superintendent Award, given to the highest GPA in the county for women’s golf.
Joy is a member of the National Honor Society and is a member of the Student Council. She has earned the Rockingham Physics and Chemistry Award. She is the daughter of Mark and Teresa Joy. She intends to major in business administration.
