GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG sophomore women’s golfer Louisa Tichy (Germering, Germany) moved up 29 spots in the individual standings to lead women’s golf in day two of the annual Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Charleston at the Kiawah Island Resort Turtle Point Course Monday. The third and final round will be played with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday with UNCG set to begin on holes No. 10-12 and live scoring will be available at www.golfstatresults.com.
UNCG sits in 12th place as a team with a 41-over par 617 score, posting rounds of 311-306 on the windy and rainy day on Kiawah Island. Kennesaw State holds the team lead at 14-over par 590 (300-290), leading Ole Miss by one stroke at 15-over par 591 (290-301). Shelby Brauckmiller of Marshall and Diane Lim of the Rebels are tied for the individual lead at 2-under par 142. Only three golfers are under-par after the first 36-holes of the event.
Tichy posted a 2-over par 74 in round two to move up 29 spots into a tie for 30th place overall. Tichy sits at 9-over par 153 after the first two rounds after carding a 79 in round one. Monday, she recorded two birdies, four bogeys and 12 par scores in the tough conditions.
“The weather conditions were tough today and I had to make a lot of up-and-downs to hold my score together,” Tichy said. “I made some good putts today to finish at 2-over par for the round. As a team, we want to finish strong tomorrow and end our fall season on a good note.
Freshman Keri Kenkel (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) is second on the team in 48th place at 11-over par 156. Kenkel opened with a 79 in round one before carding a 4-over par 76 in round two. She tallied a pair of birdies and 11 pars in round two.
Junior Natalia Asensio (Madrid, Spain/Cardenal Spinola) finished in a tie for 52nd place overall at 12-over par 157. Asensio also opened with a 7-over par 79 in round one before notching a 5-over par 77 in round two. She tallied 11 pars and one birdie Tuesday.
Sophomore Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, N.C./Northern Guilford) and freshman Tara Bettle (Hohen Neuendorf, Germany) are tied for 54th overall at 13-over par 157. Dobbins opened with a 3-over par 75 Sunday before coming back with a 10-over par 82 in round two. Bettle has posted rounds of 6-over par 78 and 7-over par 79 in her two rounds at Kiawah Island.
The Palmetto Intercollegiate consists of 18 team including UNCG, Boston University, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, College of Charleston, Daytona State, East Tennessee State, Kansas, Kennesaw State, Marshall, Mercer, Mississippi, North Florida, Old Dominion, Troy, Tulsa and Xavier.
