Women's Golf Sits In 12th After Day One Of Palmetto Intercollegiate
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team sits in a tie for 12th place overall after round one of the annual Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Charleston at the Kiawah Island Resort Turtle Point Course Sunday. Round two will be played with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Monday with UNCG set to begin on holes No. 1-3 and live scoring will be available each day at www.golfstatresults.com.
UNCG it tied with Charleston Southern at 23-over par 311 on the windy and rainy day on Kiawah Island. Ole Miss holds the overall lead at 2-over par 290 while Diane Lim of the Rebels has the individual lead at 4-under par 68. Only four golfers in the tough conditions Sunday were able to post a score under-par.
Sophomore Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, N.C./Northern Guilford) was the Spartans top finisher in the first round with a 3-over par 75. Dobbins is tied for 15th place overall after recording 12 par scores and a pair of birdies.
“Today was rough as all day it was off and on rain with wind,” Dobbins said. “However, I was able to make some putts and my front-9 was strong. I did not finish the way I would have liked and mentally I was getting tired at the end. I am excited to see how we do over the next two days.”
Freshman Tara Bettle (Hohen Neuendorf, Germany) is tied for 46th place overall after one round with a 6-over par 78. Bettle posted eight pars and two birdies on the up-and-down day. Freshman Keri Kenkel (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) was one of three Spartans to post a 7-over par 79 to finish in a tie for 59th place. Kenkel recorded 11 par scores on the afternoon.
Junior Natalia Asensio (Madrid, Spain/Cardenal Spinola) led the team with 13 par scores on the day while also posting a pair of birdies in the 7-over par 79 day. Sophomore Louisa Tichy (Germering, Germany) rounded out the lineup with eight pars and two birdies while also shooting the 79 Sunday.
The Palmetto Intercollegiate consists of 18 team including UNCG, Boston University, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, College of Charleston, Daytona State, East Tennessee State, Kansas, Kennesaw State, Marshall, Mercer, Mississippi, North Florida, Old Dominion, Troy, Tulsa and Xavier.
