GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s golf made a push to move up the leaderboard with a plus-21 showing on Sunday but ultimately the College of Charleston was able to hold off the Spartans, who completed the Bryan National Collegiate in 18th-place at 85-over par over the course of 54 holes.
Louisa Tichy (Germering, Germany/Max-Born-Gymnasium Germering) was the low score on the day for the Blue and Gold, scoring just two-over par. Tichy’s 74 was only topped by 13 other golfers on the day. After withdrawing from the first round on Saturday, she finishes with a two-round score of 154, 10-over par.
“I had a good feel for the greens today,” said Tichy. “Even though I missed a couple of my iron shots I still saved my score by making up and downs. Overall, I played consistent after struggling with shoulder issues for the last week.”
Lexi Kershaw (Winston-Salem, N.C./Catawba) posted a four-over 76. A birdie on the 11th hole put Kershaw at two-over for the round before the Ledford High School product double-bogeyed 15. Kershaw finished tied for 78th at 21-over par.
Natalia Asensio (Madrid, Spain/Cardenal Spinola) posted a 79 on Sunday to finish with a 54-hole score of 235. Her plus-19 for the tournament was good enough for a tie for 71st, the Spartans’ highest finish.
Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, N.C./Northern Guilford) parred 11 of 18 holes on the day, finishing with an eight-over 80. The local product tied for 80th overall, completing her three rounds with a plus-22 238.
After shooting 18-over par Sunday, Kristin Powers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) finished the tournament in 92nd at plus-36. Powers struggled to get going Sunday, carding five bogeys, three double-bogeys and an eight on the par-five 3rd hole.
