Women’s Golf Closes Out Second Round In 14th Place At Clover Cup
GREESNBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team sits in 14th place overall after round two of the Clover Cup hosted by Notre Dame in Mesa, Ariz., at the Longbow Golf Course Saturday. The Spartans will play their third and final round with an 8 a.m. (MST) shotgun start Sunday from holes No. 13-16. Live scoring will be available via www.birdiefire.com.
The Spartans posted a 19-over par 307 score for the second-straight day and sit 38-over par 614 in 14th place after 36 holes. Arizona State leads the field with a 20-under par 556 after posting rounds of 281-275, while Houston is second at 14-under par 562 (287-275). Julienne Soo of Oklahoma holds the individual lead with a 12-under par 132 as she has posted back-to-back rounds of 66.
Junior Lexi Kershaw (Winston-Salem, N.C./Catawba) turned in the Spartans’ top round of the day with a 1-over par 73. Kershaw is tied for 41st overall with a 6-over par 150 after opening with a 5-over par 77 Friday. She tallied a team-high 11 pars in round two and notched birdies on holes No. 5, 9 and 18.
Sophomore Natalia Asensio (Madrid, Spain/Cardenal Spinola) is second on the team in a tie for 60th overall. Asensio is 10-over par 154 after recording two straight rounds of 5-over par 77. Saturday, She posted eight par scores and birdied holes No. 2, 13 and 18.
Freshman Louisa Tichy (Germering, Germany/Max-Born Gymnasium) sits in a tie for 63rd place overall with an 11-over par 155. Tichy opened with a 5-over par 77 in round one before carding a 6-over par 78 in round two when she posted eight pars and three birdies on holes No. 2, 16 and 17.
Freshman Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, N.C./Northern Guilford) is tied for 69th overall with a 15-over par 159. Dobbins opened with a 4-over par 76 in round one and added an 11-over par 83 in round two. Senior Kristin Powers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) rounded out the lineup in 75th place with a 19-over par 163 (84-79). Senior Emily Kurey (Alpharetta, Ga./Louisville) sits in 83rd place with a 33-over par 177 (90-87) while playing as an individual.
Joining the Spartans in the 15-team field includes Notre Dame, Arizona State, Cincinnati, FIU, Florida State, Houston, Indiana, IUPUI, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, TCU, UNCG, Vanderbilt.
