GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team continued play in the 2014 Southern Conference Championships Monday at the Moss Creek Country Club North Course in Hilton Head, S.C. The third and final round of the three-day tournament is slated for Tuesday with a shotgun start.
Sophomore Sammie Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) is the Spartans’ top finisher after the first two rounds, sitting in a tie for 24th place overall. Buchanan 7-over 79 in round two and has a 36-hole total of 160 (81-79). Emily McLennan of Chattanooga leads the event with a 4-over par 148 while teammate Jordan Britt is second with a 5-over par 149.
Junior Berglind Bjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) was tied for 37th overall with a 17-over par 161 (83-78). Freshmen Maddie MacClurg (Raleigh, N.C./Green Hope) sits in 36th place with a 167 (86-81) while classmate Kristin Powers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) is one shot behind in 37th place with a 168 (87-81).
UNCG sits in ninth place after 36 holes with a score of 656 while Furman holds the two-day lead with a 606. The Paladins are just one shot in front of Chattanooga, which posted a 295 Monday and sits in second with a 36-hole score of 607.
