The UNCG women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-3 victory over Davidson at the Covington Tennis Courts.

DAVIDSON, N.C.-The UNCG women’s tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-3 victory over Davidson at the Covington Tennis Courts. 

The Spartans finished the regular season 8-12 with a 5-4 conference mark while Davidson is 7-17, 2-7 in league action. 

UNCG took the first point of the afternoon with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Yasmin Franco (Largo, Fla./Indian Rocks Christian) and Dilara Yurtkuran (Istanbul, Turkey/ Gunes Koleji) defeated Nisha Crouser and Jenna Brunner 8-7 (10-4). At No. 3 doubles, Stephanie Falcon (Marietta, Ga./Walton) and Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) defeated Tamara Hill and Blake Nickles 8-2 to lock up the doubles point. Kayla Gammie (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Broward Virtual School)  and Devon Sutherland (Lake Wylie, S.C./Clover) fell to Brites Moniz-Soares and Elaina Cummer 8-3.

The Spartans were able to rest some players to kept them fresh for the upcoming SoCon tournament allowing other players to step into the lineup. 

At No. 1 singles, Falcon fell to Moniz-Soares in three sets. Falcon took set one 6-3 but Moniz-Soares bounced back to takes the next two 6-2, 6-4.

Gammie lost to Cummer at No. 2 singles, Cummer took set one 7-6 (9-7) but Gammie forced a third set with a 6-4 set two victory. Cummer was able to take the super tiebreaker 1-0 with a 10-6 tiebreak with.

Franco earned the Blue and Gold another point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Crouser at No. 3 singles.

Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain/Newcastle Under Lyme School) fell to Jenna Brunner 6-0, 7-5 at No. 4 singles.

At No. 5 singles, Sutherland defeated Hill 6-2, 6-4.

Macey DeMoss (Mayodan, N.C./ McMichael) stepped into the No. 6 spot for the Spartans and beat Nickles 6-0, 6-2. The win was DeMoss’ first of the spring season.

The regular season is complete and the Spartans will head to Chattanooga, Tennessee to compete in the Southern Conference Tournament April 16-19. UNCG finished the regular 5-4 in conference play and will hold the fifth seed in next week’s tournament.
