GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s track program set seven outdoor personal-bests this weekend at the annual Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State at Paul Derr Track. The Spartans return to the track April 4-5 at the High Point Vertklasse meet.
Junior Dylan Belles (Denver, N.C./East Lincoln) led the way as he finished 13th in the 5,000-meter Section C race with a personal-best time of 14:42.66, trimming almost 18 seconds off his previous top time. Freshman Patrick O’Grady (Roswell, Ga./Blessed Trinity) was 11th in the 5,000-meter Section F race with a time of 16:05.66 while classmate Max Chandler (Kannapolis, N.C./A.L. Brown) was 38th in a time of 17:45.45, both personal-bests.
Junior Brandon Cain (Graham, N.C./Coker College) rounded out the Spartans in the 5,000-meter distance as he placed 30th in the Section E race with a personal-best time of 15:30.49.
The Spartans also had five runners compete in two different 1,500-meter races, with three personal-bests. Senior Tyron Alston (Mebane, N.C./Eastern Alamance) ran in the Invitational race and placed 44th with a time of 3:57.83. Four runners ran in the College race with Dakarai Shipp (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook), David Guthrie (Fayetteville, N.C./South View) and Chris Murphy (High Point, N.C./Ledford) all setting new personal marks. Shipp finished 64th in a time of 4:10.04, Murphy in 70th with a time of 4:10.75 and Guthrie in 80th with a time of 4:14.20.
