GREENSBORO, N.C. – A pair of contests against Atlantic Coast Conference members and 15 home games help comprise the 2013-14 UNCG women's basketball schedule, released Tuesday by third-year head coach Wendy Palmer. The Spartans will open the campaign at Florida State while also hosting Clemson at Fleming Gymnasium.

"I am pleased with the competitiveness of this season's schedule," Palmer said. "Playing teams like Florida State and Clemson will give us a good idea of where we stand early. Our non-conference slate will prepare us well for the rigors of the Southern Conference."

For the first time since the 2010-11 season, the Blue and Gold will host an exhibition game as UNCG welcomes Francis Marion to Fleming Gymnasium Nov. 2. The contest is part of a tripleheader, which includes a men's basketball exhibition game against Lees-McRae and a volleyball match versus Southern Conference rival Appalachian State.

The regular season commences Nov. 8 with the aforementioned road contest at Florida State and continues Nov. 11 when the Spartans travel to Gardner-Webb. UNCG opens the home portion of its schedule Nov. 15 when the Blue and Gold plays host to South Carolina State.

After a road game at Norfolk State (Nov. 20), the Spartans play six straight inside the confines of Fleming Gymnasium against former SoCon rival College of Charleston (Nov. 23), VCU (Nov. 27), High Point (Dec. 1) and Clemson (Dec. 5) before opening league play against defending Southern Conference champion Chattanooga (Dec. 14) and Samford (Dec. 16).

The team will reconvene after the holiday and travel north for the Fordham Holiday Classic (Dec. 29-30) in The Bronx, N.Y. The tournament field includes the host Rams, Harvard and Tulsa.

The Spartans kick off the New Year with a home game against local Southern Conference rival Elon Jan. 4 before hitting the road for a pair of league contests at Georgia Southern (Jan. 11) and Davidson (Jan. 13). The rest of the month sees the Blue and Gold host Western Carolina (Jan. 17) and Appalachian State (Jan. 19) before taking off on a road trip to Wofford (Jan. 25) and Furman (Jan. 27).

February begins with a rematch against the Phoenix at Alumni Gym Feb. 1 while Davidson and Georgia Southern make the return trip to Greensboro Feb. 8 and 10. UNCG heads up to the mountains Feb. 15 and 17 for contests at Western Carolina and Appalachian State before hosting Furman (Feb. 22) and Wofford (Feb. 24). Just days before the conference tournament begins, the Blue and Gold end the regular season with games at Samford (March 1) and Chattanooga (March 3).

The 2014 Southern Conference Women's Basketball Championship is slated for March 7-10 in Asheville, N.C. The first two rounds will be held at Kimmel Arena on the campus of UNC Asheville while the semifinals and championship will be contested downtown at the U.S. Cellular Center.
