Latoya Jones is in her second season as an assistant coach for the UNCG women’s basketball program.

Jones works primarily with the Spartan post players and helped mentor Janae’ Stevenson to the best statistical performance of her career during her junior season. Stevenson led the squad in total rebounds, rebounds per game, free throws made, free throw attempts and blocked shots. She also paced the Southern Conference in offensive rebounds per game (3.8) while ending up sixth in rebounds per game, ninth in blocked shots and 10th in  field goal percentage.

Jones joined the UNCG staff after two years as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C.

In Jones’ two years on the staff, the Runnin’ Bulldogs went 27-36, highlighted by a 23-11 showing in 2010-11. GWU won its first-ever Big South Conference tournament title that year, advancing to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history.

Before returning to Boiling Springs, Jones was an assistant coach for two years at Providence Day School in Charlotte, N.C. There, she helped the Chargers to a 48-10-1 record, a state championship in 2010 and a state runner-up finish in 2009.

As a player at Gardner-Webb, Jones was a four-year Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic selection and helped the Bulldogs to their first-ever A-Sun tournament finals appearance in 2006. She was named the team’s best defensive player in 2007-08.

As a freshman in 2003, Jones played under head coach Serena King and assistant coach Melinda Goodson, both former UNCG players. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the university in 2008.

Jones married her husband Alex in September of 2013 and the couple currently resides in Greensboro.
