Women's Basketball Signs Mariah Wilson For 2013-14
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Mariah Wilson has signed a national letter of intent to attend UNCG and play basketball for the Spartans beginning in the fall of 2013 according to an announcement Wednesday by head coach Wendy Palmer.
Wilson, a 6-2 center, joins fellow signees Whitney Coleman, Shanese Harris, Jade Scaife, India Timpton and Bailey Williams who all committed to UNCG in the early period.
"Mariah is a very impressive young lady on and off the court," Palmer said. "With her size and length, she is able to alter many shots, rebound and really serve as a presence in the paint. Offensively, I love her aggressiveness and eagerness to learn and improve as a post player."
As a senior and team captain at North Atlanta High School, Wilson averaged 14.2 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks per game – earning second-team All-6A region accolades. She also garnered All-Metro honorable mention honors from the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Wilson came through with one of her best performances of the season in North Atlanta's 51-36 victory over cross-town rival Grady Dec. 8. She scored 13 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked eight shots.
Wilson is a member of the Georgia Pearls AAU program, coached by Bernard Jones.
"Mariah had a very strong senior season and I think her best basketball is still ahead of her," Palmer added. "She has a strong work ethic and level of humility that will allow her to really impact our women's basketball program. We are thrilled to add such a quality member to our family during the spring signing period."
