GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG senior Jazz Weaver matched her career high with 13 points to celebrate Senior Night, but Wofford turned in a 17-6 run to end the game and take a 65-57 win over the Spartans at Fleming Gymnasium on Monday.

UNCG finished the regular season with a 4-24 overall mark and a 3-17 Southern Conference record and will be the 11th seed in the upcoming SoCon tournament. The Spartans will face No. 6 seed Furman on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Asheville, N.C.

Freshman April Carson's conventional three-point play put UNCG on top 51-48 with 4:19 to play, but the Terriers (12-17, 5-15 SoCon) were about to make a final run.

Morgan Wrightson got a layup to fall on the other end to make it a one-point game, and after a UNCG turnover, Logan Morris nailed a jumper in the lane to put Wofford back on top to stay.

A Mariah Masalin three-point play and a Daniella Motley layup completed a 9-0 spurt before a Weaver jumper made it 57-53 with 2:03 to go.

After a minute passed with no change in the score, Morris converted a layup to make it a six-point spread with just under a minute to go. The Spartans started fouling to stop the clock, sending the Terriers to the free throw line.

Motley, a 48.8 percent free throw shooter, did her part, missing her second attempt, but Wrightson came up with the rebound. UNCG put her on the line, as well, and she hit one to make it 61-53 with 49 seconds to play.

The Spartans got a Natalie Headley layup on their next possession, but Masalin and Rachel Brittenham hit two free throws each to put the game out of reach. Carson's layup with five seconds left provided the final margin.

UNCG led by as many as 11 in this one early, jumping out to an 18-9 lead on the strength of a pair of early Weaver 3s. Wofford would use a 9-0 run to get back within two points, but the Spartans would stretch their lead back out to eight. Wofford had another run in to end the half, outscoring UNCG 9-3 to creep within a pair at 28-26 at the break.

The Terriers opened the second half on a 10-0 run to claim momentum and an eight-point lead, but the Spartans gradually worked back into it, tying the contest on senior Sarah Folwell's corner 3.

Wofford would push its lead back up to five, but a Weaver 3 and a pair of Headley free throws tied it at 48 before Carson's three-point play put UNCG back on top late.

Weaver and Headley finished with 13 points each to pace UNCG, while Carson had a career-high 10. Wrightson had a game-high 17 points, with Motley (14) and Morris (12) joining her in double figures.

"Jazz had a very good night," UNCG coach Wendy Palmer said. "She's been working very hard all year. She's really come in this year and handled the transition (to a new coaching staff), and transition can be tough. She's persevered and I really hate it for the seniors tonight. I was hoping that we could win tonight for them because they've had to endure a changing of the guard, and change in any situation is tough."

Prior to the game, UNCG honored Folwell, Weaver and Amy Clapper in a Senior Night ceremony.
