GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former UNCG men’s basketball standouts and teammates Ricky Hickman and Kyle Hines played in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Championship Final Four last weekend with Hickman claiming the Euroleague Championship as part of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv. Hines fell in the semifinals as part of CSKA Moscow, marking his third straight appearance in the Final Four.

Hickman, a four-year letterwinner for the Spartans from 2003-07, helped Maccabi Electra win its sixth Euroleague Championship in club history with a 98-86 overtime victory over favorite Real Madrid. He was the second-leading scorer for Maccabi in the championship game, scoring 18 points in just over 39 minutes of action. He connected on 7-of-8 from the free throw line while also grabbing six rebounds.

"This is unbelievable, unbelievable,” Hickman told Euroleague.net. “I am at a loss of words. We just showed so much heart and character. Everybody in the locker room gave his best the entire season. When one guy was down, the other stepped up. That how it has been whole season. Fans gave us the push we needed."

Hickman is fourth all-time in UNCG basketball history in scoring with 1,544 points in 116 games played, including 88 starts. He was a three-time All-Southern Conference selection while also dishing out 273 assists and grabbing 377 rebounds in his four-year career as a Spartan.

Hines, a four-year letterwinner from 2004-08, fell just short of his quest to become only the second player in Euroleague history to win three consecutive championships with two different teams as CSKA Moscow dropped a 68-67 contest to Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv in the semifinals. Hickman had 10 points in the victory over Moscow while Hines added six points and a pair of rebounds. Hines had won back-to-back Euroleague Championships with Olympiacos Piraeus before joining CSKA Moscow.

Hines is the all-time leading scorer in UNCG history with 2,187 career points in his illustrious career. He is a four-time All-SoCon selection while also earned SoCon Player of the Year and All-America accolades in 2007. He also holds the UNCG career records for rebounds with 1,047 and blocked shots with 349 in 120 career games, including 118 starts.
