Tevon Saddler Rejoins The Menís Basketball Program 05-11-2014

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG freshman guard and reigning Southern Conference Freshman of the Year Tevon Saddler (Aberdeen, Md./St. Frances Academy) has rejoined the men’s basketball program, head coach Wes Miller announced Sunday. Saddler explored transfer possibilities this spring after his rookie campaign.

“We are pleased to announce that Tevon is rejoining our program,” Miller said. “He handled the transfer process with a great deal of maturity, and after looking at a variety of different universities he felt that his heart was still at UNCG. On his own accord, he reached out to all of his teammates individually to ask for their blessing to return to the team. I have been impressed with his humility and thoughtfulness throughout this process. He is eager to get back to work with his teammates and continue to help us achieve the lofty goals we have for this program.”

Saddler was named the 2014 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year, becoming the first Spartan to earn the honor since Kyle Hines took home the award in 2005. He led the league in scoring among all freshman, averaging 12.5 points per game while also grabbing 3.8 rebounds per game. He was 11th overall in the league with 3.0 assists per game and his 1.3 steals per game led all league rookies. Saddler finished second in the league in both free throws made (145) and attempted (216).

“I want to thank my teammates and coaches for welcoming me back,” Saddler said. “I am ready to get back to work with my team and am excited for our future.”

Saddler was named the SoCon CRONS Freshman of the Week a league-best five times this year. He scored in double figures on 20 different occasions, including three games of at least 20 points. He was consistent throughout the year, averaging 12.5 points per league game this season and 2.7 assists per game. He scored a career-high 34 points against East Carolina this year, the highest point total among all freshmen in the league. His 386 points scored this season ranks third all-time in UNCG history among freshmen.
