Scott Hartzell Named To Big South All-Decade Team
GREENSBORO, N.C. – As part of the Big South’s 30th Anniversary celebration in 2013-14, the Conference is announcing its first-ever All-Decade Teams to recognize the student-athletes and coaches who excelled in their respective sport since the Conference’s founding in 1983. A committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Teams, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.
The Spartans placed former point guard Scott Hartzell 1990-99 All-Decade Team. Hartzell was a four-year letterwinner for the Spartans from 1992-96 and finished his career as the fifth all-time leading scorer in program history with 1,539 points. He was named the Big South Rookie of the Year in 1992-93 and earned Big South Tournament Most Valuable Player honors in 1995-96, helping the Spartans to their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance at the NCAA Division I level.
Hartzell, a two-time All-Big South selection, holds the UNCG career records for three-pointers made at 309 and the record for three-point percentage in the NCAA Division I era for the Spartans. He connected on 43.9 percent (309-of-704) from distance in his career while also ranking second all-time in school history with 552 assists.
