Tevon Saddler Named SoCon CRONS Freshman of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the fifth time this season, UNCG freshman guard Tevon Saddler (Aberdeen, Md./St. Frances Academy) has been named the Southern Conference CRONS Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Saddler’s five weekly awards this season are the most in the league this year.
Saddler led the Spartans to a 1-1 record last week, turning in a balanced effort averaging 11.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. His play helped the Spartans come away with a 68-56 victory at Georgia Southern last Thursday as he scored 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists while also notching a pair of blocks. He followed that effort up with 11 points and six rebounds in the overtime loss to Western Carolina.
Saddler leads all SoCon freshmen in scoring this season at 12.6 points per game while also ranking second in the league among all players in free throws made (129) and free throws attempted (186). Additionally, he leads the team with 81 assists and 33 steals on the year.
Saddler and the Spartans return to action Wednesday night as they host rival Elon. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum.
