GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s basketball team returns to action Saturday as the Spartans travel down I-40 to Winston-Salem to take on Atlantic Coast Conference foe Wake Forest. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at the LJVM Coliseum and will be televised on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN App with Dave Weekley and Nate Ross providing the call.

The Spartans are coming off one of their best all-around performances of the season when they recorded a 78-65 victory over defending Colonial Athletic Association Tournament champion James Madison Wednesday night at the Greensboro Coliseum. UNCG rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to out-score the Dukes 42-23 in the second half as it was hitting on all cylinders both offensively and defensively.

The Spartans connected on 55.6 percent (15-of-27) from the field and were lights out from distance, hitting 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from three-point land in the second half. Conversely, UNCG stepped up its game on the defensive end, limiting the Dukes to just 32 percent (8-of-25) shooting from the field and only 9.1 percent (1-of-11) from three-point land.

Junior Nicholas Paulos (Salt Lake City, Utah/New Hampton School) led four Spartans in double figures Wednesday night with 21 points. Paulos was the catalyst from deep, hitting 7-of-11 three-point shots and was one of five different players to hit from distance in the victory. Junior Kyle Cain (Chicago, Ill./Arizona State) added 20 points and seven rebounds as he was 7-of-11 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Cain leads the team and ranks seventh in the Southern Conference in scoring at 16.0 points per game. He also ranks second in the league on the glass, averaging 8.0 rebounds per game while his 5.6 defensive rebounds per game leads the league. He has scored in double figures in 10 of 12 games this season and is shooting 54.1 percent (79-of-146) from the field.

Freshman guard Tevon Saddler (Aberdeen, Md./St. Frances Academy) is second on the team in scoring at 12.3 points per game and leads the team with 43 assists. Saddler posted seven points, including his first career three-pointer, while handing out five assists and only committing one turnover against JMU. Sophomore Kayel Locke (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) adds 11.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game as he is shooting 75 percent (33-of-44) from the free throw line.

Paulos rounds out the Spartans in double figures scoring at 11.0 points per game. He leads the team with 34 three-pointers and is shooting 38.2 percent (34-of-89) from long range.

Wake Forest enters Saturday’s game with a 9-2 record on the year and an 8-0 mark at home in Winston-Salem. The Demon Deacons have posted wins over Colgate, VMI, Presbyterian, Jacksonville, The Citadel, Southern Cal, Tulane, Richmond and St. Bonaventure while dropping two games in the Battle 4 Atlantis to Kansas and Tennessee.

Wake Forest is averaging 79.2 points per game and is holding opponents to just 68.3 points per game. Codi Miller-McIntyre leads four players in double figure scoring this season at 18.1 points per game. He has also dished out a team-high 48 assists and has also gone to the free throw line a team-high 75 times. Devin Thomas is second on the team in scoring at 11.7 points per game and leads the team on the glass at 9.5 rebounds per game.

Saturday’s game marks the first of three straight games against Atlantic Coast Conference foes as UNCG will also play Virginia Tech and NC State before the calendar year ends. The game marks the eighth meeting all-time between UNCG and Wake Forest in program history. The Demon Deacons have won all seven meetings prior, including an 84-70 victory last year at the Greensboro Coliseum.

In that game, former Spartans Trevis Simpson and Derrell Armstrong led the team with 25 and 16 points, respectively. Travis McKie scored 19 points while Thomas added 12 as Wake Forest had four player score in double figures.
