GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s basketball team hits the road for the first time this season as it heads to the Sunshine State for the inaugural Gulf Coast Showcase Nov. 25-27. The Spartans will play three games in three days at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla., beginning Monday when they face off against one of the top mid-major programs in the country, Louisiana Tech at noon.

The Spartans will play either San Diego or Illinois-Chicago Tuesday while their final game Wednesday will be against St. Bonaventure, Stetson, Southern Illinois or Wagner. All games of the Gulf Coast Showcase will be broadcast on 1320 WCOG AM and online at www.uncgspartans.com with Scott Pryzwansky providing the call. Additionally, America One Sports will video stream each game of the event online at www.americaonesports.com.

UNCG enters the event with a 3-1 record after posting wins over High Point, Chowan and Greensboro College, while dropping a last-second contest to East Carolina. The Spartans’ 3-1 start to the season marks their best open to a year since the 2007-08 campaign, when they finished with a 19-12 record.

The Spartans are averaging 88.8 points per game through four games as they are shooting 53.3 percent (122-of-229) from the field and 41.7 percent (25-of-60) from three-point land. Freshman guard Tevon Saddler (Aberdeen, Md./St. Frances Academy) has been an all-around dynamo in his first four games. The reigning SoCon Freshman of the Week is the only player in the league ranked in the top 20 in scoring, rebounding and assists. Saddler ranks fifth in league in scoring at 18.5 points, third in assists at 4.8 and 18th in rebounding at 5.8.

Freshman Tyron Outlaw (Roxboro, N.C./Person County) has been very consistent this year, scoring in double figures all four games. Sophomore Kayel Locke (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) adds 11.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game as UNCG is out-rebounding opponents by a 46.5-31.0 margin.

Louisiana Tech enters the game with a 2-1 overall record, having downed Centenary and Central Arkansas while falling at Saint Mary’s (Calif.) in the season opener. The Bulldogs posted a 27-7 overall record last year and returns 11 letterwinners, including all five starters from the team.
