GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's basketball team close out the 2012-13 regular season Saturday night as the Spartans travel to Southern Conference rival Elon. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Alumni Gym and will be aired on 1320 WCOG AM and online at www.uncgspartans.com.

The Spartans enter Saturday's game with their seed still undecided for the 2013 SoCon Tournament in Asheville, while Elon has already secured the No. 2 seed for winning the SoCon North Division title. UNCG will be either the No. 9 or the No. 10 seed depending on the outcomes of Saturday's league games. The Spartans will face either Western Carolina, Samford, Chattanooga or Georgia Southern in the first round.

Saturday's game marks the 34th meeting all-time UNCG and Elon have met with the Spartans trailing the series by a 13-20 margin. Elon has won six straight in the series, including a 72-66 victory earlier this season at the Greensboro Coliseum. In that game, the Spartans rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to take a three-point second half lead before falling in the final minute.

Junior guard Trevis Simpson (Douglas, Ga./Coffee) led the Spartans in the loss with 21 points, 16 of which came in the second half. Freshman forward Kayel Locke (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) added 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting in the loss but was limited to just 23 minutes due to foul trouble. Elon was led by Lucas Troutman who scored a team-high 19 points, while Tanner Samson and Ryley Beaumont each chipped in 12 points.

UNCG enters Saturday's game with an 8-20 overall record and a 6-11 mark in SoCon play. The Spartans have dropped two straight and five out of their last six heading into the meeting with Elon. Simpson leads the team and the SoCon in scoring at 19.1 points per game and is trying to become the first SoCon player since Stephen Curry to lead the league in scoring back-to-back seasons. He has scored in double figures 24 times, including 10 games with at least 20 points.

Senior guard Derrell Armstrong (Mechanicsville, Md./Allegany CC) is second on the team in scoring at 14.8 points per game and second on the glass grabbing 4.7 rebounds per game. Locke rounds out the Spartans averaging double figures at 10.0 points per game while also posting 4.5 caroms per contest.

Elon enters Saturday's game with a 19-10 overall record and a 12-5 mark in SoCon play. The Phoenix have dropped two straight after clinching the North Division title with losses to Chattanooga and Davidson, but prior to that had posted wins in 10 out of 11 games.

Troutman leads the Phoenix in scoring at 14.7 points per game and is second on the team on the glass at 5.3 rebounds per game. He is shooting 54.4 percent (166-of-305) from the field and also has posted 59 blocks. Guard Jack Isenbarger is second on the team in scoring at 14.0 points per and has hit a team-high 76 three-pointers.

Forward Ryley Beaumont rounds out the Elon players averaging double figures at 11.6 points per game while also grabbing a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game. Sebastian Koch leads the team shooting from distance as he connects on 44.4 percent (63-of-152) while Tanner Samson has hit 53 three-pointers.
