GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG junior second baseman Hunter King (Mason City, Iowa/Northern Iowa Area CC) has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week according to an announcement Monday by the league.

King had a monster week at the plate, hitting .714 (10 for 14) in four games while slugging 1.286 and producing a .765 on base mark. He tallied seven RBI, seven runs scored, three doubles, a triple, a home run, three walks and a stolen base. King also did not commit an error in any of the four contests.

After a 1-for-3 performance in UNCG’s game at Duke Tuesday, King exploded in the series against Elon – helping the Spartans sweep a Southern Conference opponent for the first time since 2011. He hit .818 in the three contests with a slugging percentage of 1.545 and an on base percentage of .857.

In Saturday’s game, King fell just short of the cycle as he racked up two doubles, a triple and a single as part of a 4-for-4 effort. He nearly hit for the cycle again Sunday, notching a single, double and three-run home run. In both outings, King tallied three runs scored and three RBI.

King currently ranks second on the team and third in the SoCon in batting average with a .371 mark. He is also fourth in the league in hits with 59. In conference contests, King is hitting a smoldering .492 (30 for 61) and is slugging .754.

UNCG returns to action next weekend, hosting Samford for a three-game SoCon series at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
