GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team wrapped up play in the 2014 Southern Conference Championships Tuesday playing in driving rain and on a wet Moss Creek Country Club North Course in Hilton Head, S.C. The Spartans finished the SoCon Tournament in seventh place with a 995 (337-310-339) after the three-day, 54-hole event. Chattanooga won its third straight SoCon Championship, winning with a 915 to finish five strokes in front of Furman. Emily McLennan of Chattanooga won the individual title with a 6-over par 222 to win by four strokes. Sophomore Sammie Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) was the Spartans’ top finisher in 20th place overall. Buchanan posted a 23-over par 239 in the three days, finishing with an 81-79-79. Junior Berglind Bjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) was tied for 35th overall with a 253 (83-78-92) while freshmen Maddie MacClurg (Raleigh, N.C./Green Hope) also recorded a 253 (86-81-86).
Freshman Kristin Powers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) added a 258 (87-81-90) while junior Andrea Rangel (Bogota, Columbia/Collegio la Presentacion) posted scores of 89 and 84 in the final two rounds.
